Roofing Systems

And things you thought you knew....

Liquid Plastics & Fibreglass Roofing

There's a lot of protagonists in this field of waterproofing.  For the most part, the systems currently available can be divided in to three basic categories; Acrylic, Polyurethane and PMMA (Polymethyl methacrylate). The difference between these three systems  is considerable to say the least.  PMMA is arguably the more advanced and robust of the the three. However, that's not whole story, or even the biggest issue.  Read On...

Often referred to as Hot Melt, when installed correctly, this is arguably the strongest and most reliable waterproofing there is.  This is a modified bituminous system designed for concrete, although there are exceptions.  We install a number of these systems, as each have differing advantages. The Soprema system that we like has the strongest warranty, it is BBA & CE certified to last the lifetime of the building, which amazing when you think about it. The drawback to every Hotmelt system is in limitations to what surfaces it can be installed, and the circumstances required on site.   Read On...

Structural Waterproofing

BUR Built Up Torch on Elastomerics (HT Felting)

Hight Tensile (HT) Felting is one of the most versatile and long lasting systems available. There are a number of manufacturers that make systems capable of lasting 30 plus years. Unfortunately, there's also a considerable amount of cheaper systems that look like they are HT, when they are actually considerably inferior.  It is the same thing with installers.  Quite frankly, all you need is a gas gun, a ladder, and all of a sudden you are flat roofer. Luckily, there is one sure-fire way of telling who and what you are dealing with. Read On...

Mastic & Polymer Asphalt

Asphalt roofs have been around since the 19th century.  Still to may, the best type of flat roofing.  Asphalting requires a 4 year apprenticeship, plus a number years under a master craftsman, to be considered a true (MAC) Asphalter (Mastic Asphalt Council).   There are a number of different grades of Asphalt with varying costs.  However, even the chea[pest is a reliable system if installed by a true MAC fitter. Read On...

Single-Ply Membranes

By far the most contentious of all roofing systems.  On the one hand, it's a low cost ecologically friendly, industrial waterproofing. On the other, it's a cheap, easily damaged material that's less than 2mm thick and forever a problem.  The truth is, that it's excellent for large industrial non trafficked roofs,  such as large factories. Single-ply is relatively low cost, and relaible if installed by a true professional. Unfortunately, it is so often installed incorrectly, or in the the wrong cirmuntances.  We install a number of single ply systems, but only on large commercial projects. However, we have become experts in its repair, it accounts for over 30% of our business. Read On...

LSA Lead Sheet

Lead sheet, one of the oldest and most durable roofing materials, has been known to last for over 200 years. However, even with the best of materials, poor design or incorrect installation can often lead to failure.  At Sunrise Roofing, all leadworts are installed to strict LSA standards. Recent works have included the Houses of Parlimient Read On...

Slate & Tile Repairs

Sunrise Roofing is a specialist Flat Roofing company.  However, two of our Lead workers are also an exceptionally good slate & tilers.  Having this capability means that all works, including integration with other roofs, or just repairs, are all covered in house.  This is not only more cost effective for our clients, but also ensures that work is done well, and without delays. Certainly, repairing roofs (rather than just replacing them) has been a very important part of our success.  We are also one of the very few companies that can provide insurance backed warranties (up to 10-years) on repairs.

Living Green Roofs

This is something that we all really enjoy at Sunrise, and no, its not about the money.

Green Roofs have so many benefits.  From a financial standpoint, they greatly increase the life of a roof. The sedum manages a roofs thermal variances, and completely protects it from UV radiation, which is the number 1 cause of decay for flat roofs. However, it's more than that. The sedum plants have an amazing ability for filtering air contaminants, even carbon monoxide and CO, HC and NOx emissions from cars.  For us though, they just look great and make you feel good. At Sunrise we have installed a great many green roofs. From the German Embassy, to schools, churches, and blocks of flats; every green roof was a pleasure to install.  The world has enough concrete!
